Thank you

Drew up some custom type for a thank you stamp. I think it looks pretty good. I might make a series out of it.

Treehouse: Brand Identity Basics

A few months ago, I recorded a session with Treehouse in Orlando, Florida for a course on branding. The course is four stages with five or six videos per stage. It covers the basics of brand identity design.

In this course, we’ll take an in-depth look at the brand identity design process: from planning, strategizing and research, all the way through design and finalizing the project. We’ll also explore what exactly makes a brand image and why process is so important.
Branding can be challenging, but with preparation and expectations, we can create amazing work and continue to hone in on what generates the best results.
By the end of this course, you will have the tools and knowledge to create meaningful and comprehensive brand identities.

If you don’t have a Treehouse account, you can watch the trailer here. If you do have an account and want to take the course, go here.

Treading Paper

“(…)

But our hearts tell a different story;
Our hands feel a different pulse.

Something fathomless, deeper than our pride can dive;
Numinous, higher than our hearts can rise,
Transcendent, further than our thoughts can reach;
Immanent, closer than the air we breathe.”

Exuvia, 1996

This past weekend I finished a personal project that’s been on hold since last fall. I collected cicada shells from my backyard all through the end of last year. I finally got around to cleaning, spraying, and mounting them. The frames are 6x6". There are five total, for now.

In the meantime, I am calling the series Exuvia, 1996.

5k!

I’m not a runner” but I did finish a 5k last Friday. The entire Focus Lab team ran the March of Dimes Shamrock Run here in Savannah. My time was 29:51 with a pace of 9:37. I finished 353. I plan on doing a little better next time.

Why designers should give branding back its soul

 Why designers should give branding back its soul
In an age where companies think branding strategists can solve all their problems, Adrian Shaughnessy argues that designers should take back control.
Pretty good article. link
